Mother's Day Messages

Room 14 made some special messages for their Mums for Mother's Day. We wrote and read our messages ourselves and then made a little talking photo using an app called Chatterpix kids on an ipad. We had a lot of fun decorating our photos with graphics.

Here are some Mother's Day messages to share with you:

The children were very excited making these movies and I know would enjoy making some more at home. Great for sending messages to grandparents too!
This is the app we used on our iPads:

Reading Games

Yay! We have finally had our mimio interactive whiteboard installed in the classroom.
Last week Room 14 used it to play some interactive reading games.

Here we are using the mimio board in our reading groups.

You might like to play some of these games at home. Click on the picture below:

Burying The Time Capsule

Howick Primary School turned 50 years old last term and had a special jubilee celebration.
We have been learning about school in the olden days and comparing this to our school today.

Our big thinking questions for our Connections topic were:

How are things linked?
How are things the same or different?
How are we connected to people from the past?

Everybody in the whole school wrote a letter to themselves to put in the time capsule.
Then we had a special ceremony to bury the time capsule. It is going to be buried for 50 years.
When we are 64 years old we are going to come back to school to dig up the time capsule and read our letters that we wrote to ourselves when we were 5 years old! Wow!

Today Howick Primary School is going to bury the time capsule. When we get older we can dig it up and you can read my work. I feel excited.  By Ashton

First we watched the man put a frisbee in. Next he put a school uniform in and our letters. I will dig up the time capsule in 50 years. I will feel happy like the song happy.  By Zivan

Today we buried the time capsule in the hole and we had fun. We put a swimming cap and a frisbee and a dictionary and a ball and some reading books and our letters in. In 50 years time we will come back to school and dig it up. It will be exciting and fun and we will read our letters to everyone. Howick Primary School will be old and we will be old.  By Silas

Sneeze Safety

Winter is almost here and soon there will be lots of germs and bugs around.
We need to make sure we sneeze safely so we don't spread germs and get sick.

Room 14 did a little experiment with green glitter.
We pretended to sneeze germs onto our hands (the green glitter) and then shook hands with somebody else. Every time we shook hands we spread the germs...uhh ohhh!
